Braces

What Are Braces?

Braces are devices that help align and straighten teeth and correct improper teeth bites by positioning the teeth according to a person’s bite. Braces can also be used to fix teeth that are either too close or too far apart and work by gradually applying continuous pressure for an extended time ranging from 6 to 24 months.

Benefits of a Dental Implant

Using braces to correct your teeth alignment not only creates a nice-looking smile but can also result in a healthier mouth by helping avoid:

  • Gum disease.
  • Decay of tooth.
  • Problems with jaw due to misalignment.
  • Tooth loss.

Abnormal bites typically happen to children younger than 12, so treatments start during the teenage years to achieve optimal teeth alignment. Adults can also have braces; therefore, the treatment can occur at any stage of a patient’s life.

Generally, once the braces treatment concludes, retainers are used to hold the teeth in place in their new positions.

There are a few different types of braces, so consult with your dentist on which one would be the right fit for you:

  • Metal Braces: Most commonly used and are made of stainless steel.
  • Ceramic Braces: May look better since they blend with the color of the teeth.
  • Concealed Braces: Braces that are attached to the back of teeth and therefore hidden.
  • Invisible Braces: Are clear, removable, and less visible, and since they are removable, they won’t trap food particles in the mouth.
